B&W journal

For years, photography lived in my life mostly through sunsets. I photographed them almost daily, but still thought of photography as something connected to particular moments.

That changed last summer when I installed the Leica app on my phone. The ability to work in black and white, with different lenses and a more tactile aesthetic, suddenly shifted what I noticed.

It was no longer only the color of the sky. I wanted to photograph everything around me: a cup, a book, a person passing by, an event, a quiet moment at home, myself.

Black and white removes much of the distraction of color and leaves me with contrast, light, movement, texture, and feeling. It became a way of paying attention to ordinary life, and the moment I understood that photography was not simply something I enjoyed doing. It was becoming part of how I experience the world.

This journal is still exactly that: a record of my fascination with being here.

Black and white is also part of what I offer in my sessions.

It can appear alongside color photographs or become the visual language of the entire experience.
