Story beneath the surface: fine-art portraits rooted in real conversation

I photograph people in the moments they stop managing how they're seen — when something honest comes through. Each session is part photoshoot, part conversation, designed to surface what's real and hold it in a frame.

Hey, I'm Anna Li

I don't photograph appearances. I photograph what surfaces when a person stops managing how they look and starts being honest about who they are.
My sessions begin with conversation — real conversation, about what matters to you, what you're navigating, what you're becoming. I listen, I watch, and when something true comes through, I press the shutter.
The result isn't a polished image of how you want to be seen. It's a photograph of who you actually are in a moment of presence.

“Let's bring to the light the version of yourself you’ve always felt, but never seen.”

The Process

STEP 01

Get in touch
Start by filling out a short questionnaire about what's drawing you to this session — the practical details and whatever feels true about where you are right now. No need to have it all figured out.
STEP 02
Intro call
We'll have a 30-minute conversation to get to know each other, explore what you're looking for, and make sure we're a good fit. This call is as much for you as it is for me. If we decide to move forward, I'll walk you through everything from there.
STEP 03
The Session
We meet, we talk, and we go deeper than you expected. The session is part photoshoot, part reflective dialogue — I guide the conversation while watching for the moments when something real surfaces. That's what I capture. Your session is a private space. Always.
STEP 04
Your story, delivered
Within 3 to 5 days, your photographs arrive — along with a written reflection on what emerged during our time together.

This is for you if...

You've been thinking about this for a while. Maybe you can't fully explain why. Something about being seen honestly — not perfectly — feels right. You don't need to have the words yet. That's what our conversation is for. If you're in a season of change, reflection, or becoming — this work is for you.
